Harry Morgan, a native of West Virginia grew up in the town of Belmont. He attended St. Mary's High School in St. Mary's, WV and graduated in 1981. Morgan began his studies at West Virginia University the same year and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

After graduation, Morgan worked developing firmware and software used in application controls and factory automation. In the fall of 1992, Morgan began working for a then small company, America On-Line (AOL) in Vienna, VA. Morgan helped modify and develop new software for AOL that enabled the on-line service company to grow and support millions of simultaneous customers. Morgan's efforts included developing application software for email attachments, message boards, software downloads, ftp, personal finance, stock quotes, chat and parental controls. Morgan is named on two U.S. Patent applications and one International Patent application for technology he developed while at AOL. The email attachment system Morgan developed grew to comprise of millions of individual file transfers and a terabyte of new storage each day. In addition to being instrumental in developing software, Morgan managed a technical team and was consulted within the company for several projects. Morgan retired from AOL in the spring of 2000 as a system architect.

In 2002, Morgan and his wife, Jennifer (a 1986 graduate of the WVU School of Pharmacy) established the Harry and Jennifer Morgan Scholarship at West Virginia University. The scholarship was established to help support inspiring students financially. In the same year, Morgan began serving on the Advisory Committee for the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University.

Morgan was elected to the WVU Academy of the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in 2004.
