Bernard W. Whittington received the BSEE from WVU in 1951; then joined the Appalachian Power Company as a Power Engineer. In 1959, he began his 23rd year with Union Carbide's Technical Center in South Charleston, WV, as Lead Electrical Engineer and evolved into an Engineering Consultant with Carbide's Chemicals and Plastics facilities.

Mr. Whittington was elected a Fellow of IEEE in 1982 "for Leadership in Electrical Standards and Implementation." In 1982 he was President of the IEEE Industry Applications Society. He received the I&CPS Achievement Award, the IEEE Standards Medallion, the IEEE Centennial Medal and in 1989 received Richard Harold Kaufmann Award for "Outstanding Achievement in the field of Industrial Systems Engineering." He is listed in "Who's Who in America," is the Chairman of an IEEE Standards Board Subcommittee on Fire Hazard Assessment and Toxicity and Chairs Code Panel No. 12 of the National Electrical Code.

Currently, Mr. Whittington owns his own consulting firm. He is a Registered Engineer in West Virginia, Past Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Sissonville Public Service District, Past Chairman and currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Sissonville.
