Frank Anthony Furfari received a BSEE degree from West Virginia University in 1938. After graduation he was employed by the Koppers Coal Company's Federal Division. In 1940 he joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he remained for forty years, retiring in 1980. His last position was Service Manager of the Industry Equipment and Service Group at Corporate Headquarters. Since retiring he has been engaged in consulting work for the Electromechanical Engineering Associates of Pittsburgh.
He has been very active in IEEE, having held many positions in the Toledo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh Sections and in the Industry Applications Society of IEEE. At present, he is newsletter editor for that society. In 1970, he was elected an honorary member of Eta Kappa Nu and in 1979, he received the IEEE Industry Application Society Outstanding Achievement Award. In 1980, he was elected a Fellow in IEEE and in 1984 he was awarded an IEEE Centennial Medal.
