James Butch graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology (now WVUIT ) in 1974 with a BSEE--Cum Laude. He is a member of IEEE, ISA, AGA, ARRL, Kiwanis, The Planetary Society, and the IEEE Computer Society. He is a member of the Industry Advisory Committee for the Lane Department of CSEE at WVU, Member and Past Chair of the Industry Advisory Committee for the Department of EE/CpE at WVUIT, Chair of the Industry Advisory Committee for the Leonard C Nelson College of Science and Engineering at WVUIT, Member of the Industry Advisory Committee for the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at WVU and Member of the Board of Visitors for WVUIT.
In 1976, Butch co-founded Eagle Research Corporation, a WV company that was formed as a product development company. By 1978, the company focus became developing products for the growing Natural Gas Industry in WV. Today, Eagle Research is a leading supplier of measurement instruments for the gas industry in the United States and fourteen different countries. He has been recognized by the West Virginia University Institute of Technology as the Alumnus of the Year 1994, the West Virginia University Woodburn Circle Society in 2008, the Putnam County Development Authority Community Development Award 2010, the Who’s Who in Science and Engineering 1994/1995, the Who’s Who World Wide 1994/1995, and the Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities 1974/1975. Over the course of the years, he has been awarded eight U.S. Patents.
