Larry J. Argiro, Sr., graduated from West Virginia University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer in the Signal Corps from 1943 through 1946. Since his graduation he has been employed by the U.S. Navy in Annapolis, Maryland, as a research and later as director of research and development in areas of machinery acoustics and advanced machinery systems. He progressed from an entry level Electrical Engineer to become a member of the Senior Executive Service. Mr. Argiro was a pioneer in developing machinery acoustic silencing technology for reducing noise from shipboard machinery and controlling environmental and habitability noise on ships. He remains a leading technical authority in the field.

Mr. Argiro assumed his present position in 1987 as Director of Machinery Research and Development Directorate of the Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center in Annapolis, Maryland. He supervises approximately 400 scientists and engineers, and directs research and development programs for advanced naval machinery systems. As an Electrical Engineer, one hallmark program under development which Mr. Argiro has fostered is the ship Integrated Electric Drive. This program is strongly supported by the Chief of Naval Operations and Congress, and will lead to the development of all electric ships for the Navy of the 21st century. The total benefits of Mr. Argiro's achievement to the U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and the nation as a whole are incalculable.

Mr. Argiro is a lifetime member of ASNE, a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, member of the Institute of Noise Control, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland. He is listed in "Who's Who", "International Biography", and "International Men of Achievement".

Mr. Argiro is married to the former Rose Demus from Worthington, West Virginia. They have been married for 47 years and have one son, Larry, Jr., who is also a West Virginia University graduate. Mr. and Mrs. Argiro reside in Severna Park, Maryland.

Mr. Argiro retired in 1994 and lives with his wife Rose in Severna Park, MD. They have been married for 60 years.
