B.S. Electrical Engineering, West Virginia University, 1983

M.S. Electrical Engineering, West Virginia University, 1985
PhD Engineering, West Virginia University, 1988

Peter started his WVU career in the fall of 1979 and completed his BSEE degree in May of 1983. He continued at WVU to earn his master's degree in 1985 and his PhD in 1988 under the excellent and patient advice of Dr. Wasfy Mikhael. His areas of interest were acoustics, electronics, and signal processing.

Upon graduation, Peter was employed at the Westinghouse Science and Technology Center developing algorithms to monitor blade vibration in steam turbines and developing industrial applications for active sound and vibration control. He and his team earned several awards for these advancements.

In 1994, Peter pivoted his career from industrial and defense applications to a small medical device company called Respironics that specialized in ventilators that treat respiratory diseases like COPD and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He had the privilege of working with some of the top pulmonologists in the world conducting clinical trials and developing next generation therapies.

In 2001, he left Respironics to join a startup developing a virtual presence communication system. Upon successful completion, he returned to Respironics in 2006, was promoted in 2015 to Principal Scientist and is recognized as a subject matter expert in mechanical ventilation. Peter holds 29 patents spanning topics from simulation of steam turbine blade vibration to monitoring Wi-Fi traffic to assess health status of individuals in a home.

Since 2016, Peter has been an advisor to the Center for Medical Device Innovation at the University of Pittsburgh and to the Human-Computer Interaction Institute and the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University.

Peter lives in the Pittsburgh area with his lovely wife Karen of over 35 years. They have three children with two sons living in Pennsylvania and a daughter and her husband living in Germany.
