Robert C. Gillespie, a native of Scarbro, WV, received his BSEE degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1964. Working with and under the guidance of Dr. Robert E. Swartwout, he received the MSEE and Ph.D. degrees from West Virginia University in 1968 and 1972, respectively.

Robert has devoted his entire professional career to West Virginia Tech. He has served the institute in many capacities, including chair of EE, dean of the College of Engineering, and for 6 years, he served as the president. He stepped down in 1992 and was named a Regents Professor by the Board of the State College System of WV.

He has successfully combined his academic career with extensive professional consulting activity in the area of computer control and artificial intelligence with industrial and military applications.

Robert's record includes service on the WV State Council for Vocational Education (Vice-Chair), and Private Industry Council of WV, the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCOR), the Software Valley Foundation, and various other civic and economic development concerns.
