From 1963 - 1967, he was a Member of the Technical Staff of Bell Telephone Laboratories in North Andover Massachusetts. After serving on the faculty of Kansas University for 10 years, he joined WVU as Professor and Chairman of the ECE Department. He served as Chairman from 1979 - 1990.

In addition, he is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Technology Today, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.

Currently he is Power Professor of electrical engineering in the ECE Department at WVU.

Prof. Klein retired from WVU (and the CSEE Department) in summer, 2006 and moved from Morgantown to Raleigh, NC in summer, 2008. There, he and wife Nancy enjoy proximity to daughter, Laura and husband James Vann and two (Grand) grandchildren; Sarah and Walker, who live in Raleigh. Their second daughter, Karla (Klein) Murdock and husband Bob and grandchildren; Anna and Will reside in Lexington, VA a four hour drive from Raleigh. Hence, there can be and is lots of family interaction; much closer than would have been the case from Morgantown. But, do we miss CSEE / WVU / and Morgantown. And oh YES ! Karla also an academic -- Prof. of Psychology at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA.
