Ross Duncan Brown received a BSEE degree from West Virginia University in 1922. After graduation he was employed by the General Electric Company for a short time and then by the Monongahela Power Company. Mr. Brown started as a meter tester and progressed through various departments to the position of Chief Engineer, a position he held for seventeen years. He retired in 1963 after forty years of service.

He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and an honorary member of Eta Kappa Nu. He was an active member of IEEE of which he became a fellow in 1954. He was active in the formation of the Upper Monongahela Subsection of IEEE serving as its first chairman in 1958-59. He was a member of the Edison Electric Institute, West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers, a Registered Professional Engineer and served as a member of the State Board of Registration of Professional Engineers. He was a member of the first Visiting Committee of the College of Engineering and was listed in Who's Who in Engineering.
