Wayne Muth is a native of Denver, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado and received the BS Degree in 1954. During 1954 to 1959 he was a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy. He entered Iowa State University and received the MS Degree in 1960 and the Ph.D. in 1963.

Dr. Muth came to WVU in July 1969 as Director of the WVU Computer Center and Professor of Computer Science. He served as Director of the Computer Center until January 1977 and was Director of West Virginia Network for Educational Telecomputing (WVNET) from March 1975 through January 1977.

Dr. Wayne Muth is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at West Virginia University. He served as Professor of Computer Science for 27 years and retired in December 1996. Before retiring he was Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Computer Science for 2 years; for the prior ten years he was Associate Chair of the Department.

Professor Muth has authored many papers on Computer Science. His literature includes nine Conference Proceedings, seven Invited Papers, eleven Technical Reports for clients Martin Marietta, U.S. Navy, NASA, and the Federal Coal Mine Health & Safety Act. He also has professional memberships and awards including: the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, and he is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa. He has recently become a member of the Department's Advisory Committee.
